What to Expect During the Design Process

Initial Consultation
Your design begins with an on-site meeting to discuss your goals, the scope of your project, and your budget. This is also a chance for me to see your landscape first-hand and to make initial observations of the opportunities and challenges presented.

Site Assessment & Basemap
A variety of data will be collected to create a basemap and help inform your design, including site measurements, photos, existing plants, soil and drainage, slope, and more.

Concept Phase/Design Review
This part of the process outlines one or more options for the overall layout of your landscape, such as pathways, gathering spaces, hardscaping, and planting bed locations. We will review the concept plan together and your feedback will be incorporated.

Final Design
Your final design documents will typically include a base plan showing all new areas, materials, and important measurements called out, an annotated planting plan, a digital photo board highlighting selected plants, and a plant maintenance calendar.

Your Design is Complete… Now What?

Project Installation
If you will be installing the design yourself you will be provided with supporting DIY documents, such as a plant purchase list, recommended installation timeline, and customized resource list.

On the other hand, if you decide to hire a contractor to install your design you will receive a list of recommended licensed contractors and a PDF design document that you can use to solicit bids. Once you have a contractor selected, I am available to walk through the design with them and answer design questions they may have.

Additional services throughout your installation are available at an hourly rate:
— Assistance collecting and reviewing contractor bids
— Plant sourcing, delivery, and placement on site
— Additional site visits to review installation progress

Caring for Your Garden
In-person coaching is available to teach you how to maintain your landscape thoughtfully with plant and soil health in mind. Methods taught are organic and ecosystem-focused. Schedule a maintenance coaching session.
